Angelina M. Herin (she/her) is a Cleveland, Ohio based costume, wig, and makeup designer with roots in the Pacific Northwest. Both encouraged to explore her creative impulses and develop an independent spirit while participating in the realities of life on a small farm, Angelina’s aesthetic reflects a mix of whimsy and pragmatism. She is drawn to plays that offer exploration of divergent viewpoints and timeless stories. With a desire to explore the messiness and complications of the human experience and a passion for poetic language, Angelina gravitates towards Shakespeare as well as modern works.
She is pleased to have her work presented at many venues, including Cleveland Play House, the Seattle Opera, Cleveland Public Theatre, American Folklore Theatre, Montana Repertory Theatre, Texas Shakespeare Festival, and Theater at Monmouth. In addition, Angelina has worked with several television/ production companies as a makeup artist and stylist for national and regional programming.
Since 2011, she has been the Resident Costume Designer and an Associate Professor of Theater at Case Western Reserve University. As an educator, Angelina has received numerous nominations for her teaching and was awarded Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year in 2011. Her pedagogy centers around theatrical design as visually collaborative and communicative art wherein the artist forms specific, thoughtful choices to express ideas. A recent CWRU graduate stated, “she [Angelina] was instrumental to my growth as a designer and collaborator…Her commitment to diversity in theatre has inspired me to consider the larger impacts I can make through productions and how I can empower those who come after me.” (The Daily) She regularly presents scholarly work at the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT), with a focus on incorporating Active Learning techniques, screen sharing, and technology/media into design courses.
She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theater (Costume Design) from The University of South Carolina. Angelina is a proud member of USITT, StateraArts, PAAL, and an alumna of Alpha Xi Delta women's fraternity.
